Tell me if this story is good...
We're going to do an activity that allows us to sample Twain's writing, but for now, I want to hear your opinions on one of Twain's most famous stories. You could open any American Lit Anthology and seven out of ten times you'd find "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County".
The above link will take you there. Read it and tell me what you think. What's so d-d wonderful about this story? Why would it be the one that so many people choose to teach?

its a clever story its pretty confusing at times but pretty entertaining
I liked the story alot. I enjoy odd things like this however do not think it is worth the recognition it gets
Like many of his other pieces it was writin in a witty manner, but overall i really didn't like this peice very much. I found this piece harder to read commpared to some of Twain's other works.
I know this comment is late, but I thought that I would send it anyway.
like many of his stories there is humor and it is quite funny. there seemed to be a moral of the story in this one, or a lesson to be taught. but like many of my peers i dont feel it needs as much attention as it gets.
i enjoyed the story, although i definitely didn't find it...uhm...riveting. there's nothing really wrong with this story, it's just that there's nothing about it that moves it 'above and beyond' other stories of Twain.
So this is the second thing i've ever read from twain..the first being Huck Finn,(twain does a good job of making you want a bit more) quite frankly i at first hated Huck Finn and was wondering how i was going to finish it, plus anyone who came acrossed me said it was a great book. my thoughts were if it was how did they ever get past the beginning, so i just decided to contine reading it; it left me with a smile. i think this is sorta the same thing--by the way my speech is getting worse with these sourthern readings--this story was a pithy Huck story, it was kind of random and confusing yet if you dig down a bit--or a lot--it makes sense. maybe this story is so often gratified b/c people enjoy being challenged and love to figure things out..so this piece of writing leaves some room for peolpe to go geussing away at the 'real deal' and yet they still probly don't get it...this is one of the stories that people will read, then mull over a bit, then give it to their friend or student(or such) and say "What do think it means, it what written for a reason..i know, how about you?" In conclusion maybe there is indeed a deeper meaning, a serect to life behind it, or not. Either way, this story was for a good time, to leave a grin--whether it was upside down or rightside up.
